    Hello again.
In answer to your question... yes, I believe TV can be educational. But only when we choose the right programmes, for example Saber y Ganar, in Spain, is a quiz show, where the contestants can win lots of money by answering questions about general culture... so while you watch you learn!
Also most documentaries teach us a lot about wild life and other places in the world. In my opinion, both children and adults can learn from them.

Apart from those, there are other programs where our children can learn English or just by listening and observing, because that way they are improving their language. The cartoon Sponge Bob is a good example, though it might seem ridiculous!

However, sometimes we have to watch lots of rubbish which instead of teaching us can make us more agressive... (to be continued)

    BM.

    1. Batman,
      I love Sponge Bob,
I think it's one of the best cartoons ever!
Yes, TV can makes us aggressive if we behave as coach potatoes and are not selective when watching Tv comes into play...
This can lead to an intersting debate.

      Thanks for commenting.

Television and Internet are one of the greatest inventions to ever be created, are they?

Since television has entered our life for so long, many may discuss the topic that whether television has brought us more good effects than bad ones. With the recent TV model based on satellite and digital speciality channels, we now have access to both good quality and inappropriate TV content.

The first opinion about television is very good, because it gives us very big amount of information. Moreover television is a useful educational tool if used correctly and in moderation. Television can assist with academic learning. For example, a housewife can learn about different ways of cooking across a cookery programme as “LA HORA DE ARGUIÑANO”, while a young girl can obtain various methods to lose weight in shows that give wonderful tips across a makeover as “CLAUDIA SCHIFFER”. TV programmes often explores controversial or sensitive issues across documentaries, “INFORME SEMANAL”, “LA NOCHE TEMÁTICA”,… or cultural programming can open up the world of music and art for young people as “PROGRAMA DE MANO”. In all these cases, television is the medium that offers people a superb, amusing and thrilling variety of opportunities to see and learn things more clearly. (Oh my god!, I just remembered the hilarious and entertaining cartoon “SESAME STREET”. Did you remember?).

However, on the other hand the second opinion about television is that there are still some drawbacks as too much violence scenes. Another disadvantage is that the intention to watch television may cause conflicts between children and parents because of different opinions about which program to watch. And finally, the TV creates a couch-potato culture in which people sit in front of the TV for hours on end.

To sum up how can we select viewing that is good for us? If we ask ourselves the following question: Does the program engage us, physically or intellectually? Television is an excellent resource, even though it is not always used to it’s full potential, it entertains and educates. Television would be one of the most useful resources if some important changes were made.

How to know whether Television is educational or not? TV has been with us since a lot time ago and, as time goes by, you have seen a lot of programs which, in former times, couldn't be seen by children just for adult people but, nowadays, there is not any distinction among them. Everybody can see whatever and whenever they want.
From muy honest opinion, I think Television can be educational depending on the program and people who present it. Currently, there are programs as such "Big Brother" and "Sálvame" which don't have any benefit for people who watch it.
Children and young people just learn to criticize and to have sex with a person they hardly know.
Once a teacher told in a program dedicated to Belen Esteban that his students behad like her due to,thanks to her behaviour, she was a famous person and had a good economic position. It is very sad, isn't it?. With these "wonderful" programs and reality shows, people learn the worst things which you can imagine and, the worst of all of this is that they believe they are not wrong and their actitude is great.
To sum up, I would like to watch more educational programs such as documentaries, history films...It is neccesary to change the mentalities of people and to create a better world because, as we already know, children are our future but it they continue watching this kind os "rubbish programs", what could get from them?

In my opinion,TV nowadays is not educational at all, it has been turned into a great way in order to manage our minds. The owners of main TV´s producers are more interested in the audience and get enormous amounts of money through the advertisement
Unfortunaly, most of the audience prefer to watch programs such as, big brother, salvame, survivors or something like that, even football matchs are being brocasted by the diferent channels instead of quallity programs.I guess TV would be able to be better, however, society don´t make a change, it´s a pitty.

    1. You are right FG,

TV is a manipulative device which can produce a good or a bad effect on us. It's a shame that we are not aware of that and instead follow the path of what producers create. As for advertising, if it weren't for that TV wouldn't exist...

It’s generally considered that television should be educational. So, cultural aims are given in a lot of programmes. These can be seen in quiz shows, news and even in variety shows.

First of all, from my point of view, programmes like “Saber y Ganar” or “Cifras y Letras” are not educational as they only shows how intelligent some people are. All of them are about answering questions with only one possible solution.

Secondly, variety shows such as “El hormiguero” pretend to join cultural issues and entertainment but they only manage to be funny. However, the experiments and the concepts that are been used are right.

Moreover, some television channels disagree with this and also they believe that talk shows as “Big Brother” is a sociological experiment that nobody could miss.

To my mind, television is an enjoyable widget which let you forget all your hard day and help you to afford a new day, isn’t it?

Nowadays, some people think that television can teach to children. Nevertheless, if parents do not control television, their children will become aggressive. In my opinion, you can learn anything thanks to television.

The first and most important reason is that you can watch on television some places which you would never be able to visit because they are very far or you would never earn enough money to travel to there

It is often said that in spide of the fact that there are too programs which do not teach anything, if you watched quiz shows and documentaries, you would became more intelligent.

One final argument against television is that there are too adult programs and commercial on children timetable which are bad for children´s behavior.

To sum up, I believe that television has to be controlled by parents and state to protect children.

In my opinion the tv is good but in some homes, the television is perpetually "on" even without anyone watching. It is common for parents to use TV as a substitute babysister. Also, many parents buy videos that they think can make their kids intelligent. But how does watching TV really affect children?
The first 2 years of your kid is a critical time for brain development. When your kid interacts with people he learns languages, not by passive listening to TV. When your baby smiles at the TV, the TV does not smile back.
I think, If you control the time and TV programs in children over 3 years and in adults, its won´t be bad for us.

Television? oh no! it is the worst thing that has been created in the world!. It makes to a big part of the society waste time watching reality shows like "Big Brother" or "Survivors". can anyone tell me what do we learn by watching a group of people discussing or fishing in a Caribbean island? I hope not to have an answer.

When I see people around me watching talk shows like "Sálvame", I feel like I want to throw the television out!

On the other hand, someone can say that it´s good because you can watch the news or documentaries from the National Geographic, but why do we have to turn on the tv to see them?. I think we can read de newspapers or magazines and we will probably learn more and how not! we could go to the zoo.

Does TV affect in the behavior of people?

    Personally I think so.

Firstly, there are many TV channels where you can watch programs or contents that you like. You can choose from educational programs such as “Atrapa un millón" or rubbish programs like "Sálvame de luxe”. Furthermore, according to what you see, without know it, they are forming your personality, aren’t they?

Secondly, advertising also influence your conduct "inviting" you to do or stop doing something. But really what is that they want with advertising on TV is that you spend money, for example, advertising where the athlete Usain Bolt is running using VISA credit card.

On the other hand, many people believe that TV does not influence their behavior and they see all kinds of programs, don’t they? and what it is worse, let their children watch TV out of parental control.

To sum up, I think that TV influences your behavior. It depends on you that TV has got an influence educational or not, hasn’t it?.

I think TV can be educational depends on which programs is chosen by people.

Obviously there are many programs on TV which are good or bad for everyone, specially for children. But the question is ´Do we choose the correct programs or films for us or for our children?´.

TV can be influence our lives in such way that our lifestyle and behaviour can be changed depending on the programs or films we watch. For example, sometimes we watch many advertisements which convince people buy many things. Moreover it happens with terror, violence or war films. In the same way TV influence children watching certain programs after some hours in the night. So, we must be careful about what we watch on TV because there are many junk/trash programs.

However there are many educational programs, series or films which are very interesting for everyone or every member of the family. Even you can choose the program according to the age of the person.

In conclusion, I point out that the TV can be educational and we can enjoy watch it whether by alone or by accompanied.

Someone says that “a picture is worth a thousand words”. And it’s true. Because of that, everybody has a TV.
On the one hand the worst thing is that people don´t know how to use it and TV producers avail the opportunity to put things that people hate but they watch. TV makes people do that it wants. I said that there are a lot of programs, publicity… who tells people to do something and then they do. This is the main problem. Because of that there are some services which remove publicity and programs which tell children that if they eat for example “Actimel” they will be stronger and that is not true.
On the other hand, TV can teach children and everybody to speak any language, to know about different countries, cultures… The most important is that parents should know what their children can watch…
Although you can choose the channel, there are some of them that put programs which must be ban, like “Sálvame” which spends all the afternoon telling the live of famous people.
I think that the most important is that you choose the best program or channel, not that they force you to watch.

Despite of the fact that the world is constantly changing with the emergence of new technologies, TV keeps being one of the most popular media, not only because you can find all kind of programs on it but also because is the fastest way to know what is happening from all over the world.
There are so many channels that it could be possible to to have a tv for all, from cartoons, documentary, news or movies to sports, contests or reality shows, whose only aim is just to amuse, although sometimes people bring out the worst of them in this kind of programs.
Personally I believe that there must be all sort of programs because sometimes when you arrive at home after a hard work day the only thing that you want is just to relax and not thinking on your hard day by watching an amusing and funny show, but on the other hand goverments should take the chance of having this media and produce more educatives programs which might help people to develop themselves.

In my opinion TV can be educational, but is not my case, I only watch dramas , I do love them, so they are not much educational, I choose TV as an enjoyment but I realize that there are a lot of kind of channels or programmes which are very interesting and instructive for everyone, for instance i am thinking in Discovery Channel, or Little Einstein as Cartoon for children.
In the other hand TV can be mainly a bit dangerous if the schedule is not appropriate, because children or even young people could watch film or shows which must not be allowed them.

In the first place, I think television would be a marvelous invention if it was used in an appropriate manner, nevertheless this is impossible.
In my opinion, there are two types of television, public television, which is manipulated by the ruling party, and private television, which serves private interests and is pressured by political force.
When you watch a piece of news on television, according to the television channel which you watch, it might be different one. For example, the news about “general strike of March” you could watch on “Intereconomia TV” were different from what you could watch on “Sexta TV”.
Apart from this, entertainment programs such a reality TV, are a mockery. An example of this, was the movie “The Truman Show”, this story reflects the falseness of reality television. Truman, the leading man, simply lives, and the show´s popularity is its straightforward voyeurism, and like Big Brother, Survivor and every reality show, none of his environment is actually real.
Personally, I only watch sports programs, documentaries and news, but when I watch news, I try to watch them in channels of different political ideologies and compare them to be close to the reality.
To be honest, I prefer eating Spanish ham and drinking red wine with my friends to watching television.

Our TV has a great story! It was born in the early 20th century when all needed to know about the world trough a visual medium. TV was one of the best inventions of the century.
On the other hand, now we are wondering if TV is positive and educational. In my opinion, it depends on money and business from the channels of TV because they decide what things retransmit. In most cases, people like waste programs like Sálvame or Big Brother, and these types of channel are the most retransmited by TV channels.
The future of these programs depends on the people because if we decide to see just interesting channels, our TV will become more educational.

    Is TV educational??
"It`s depend on the programmes you choose" it is the answer more given each time you do the question.
Nowadays, if you wanted to have a good educational TV in your house you should pay for it, it is not free. In our free TV we have only one channel is worth to see which emits documentaries, news, sports, good programmes of cinema... But only one channel is not enough to satisfy the demands of all the people who search a better TV.
Almost all the other channels saturated us with soaps, contest... and what is worse, with reality TV programmes based on real coexistence where people discuss and criticize each other all the time. Even the little short time that left free we have to put up with talk shows where people , journalist or NOT, spend all day tearing "famous people" to shreds and earning a lot of money with this.
Nevertheless, I think that this is the snake biting its tail. Each time there is more TV garbage, but this is happening because each time there are more people who wants to watch it. I don`t know if this lack of cultural interest is related with the education received, how some people stand by, or simply they are options that people choose by themselves, independently of their cultural levels. What is true is that each time there are more couch potatoes.
Whatever it is, channels should bet for a more diverse programmes and with more cultural contents.

Fortunatelly, nowadays we have many different channels to choose the perfect programme to watch.
In my opinion, Tv would be educational if we chose the correct programme as documentaries, news, diy, cookeries programmes. The TV brings unknown things and places to every houses. For example, " Españoles en el mundo" shows you places around the world.
On the other hand, there are shows where you can´t learn anything. On the contrary, these programmes continue showing it on TV because they have a high audience. Normally, if you ask somebody about their opinion, they will answer you than they are rubbishprogrammes but it should be a lie because the producers continue withe these programmes on screen.
To sump up, if you choose the correct programme it will be an opportunity to learn new abilities.

  22. Television is a medium of mass communication and would be interesting to use this medium to entertain and educate. Today it seems that entertainment and culture aren´t compatible but I remember that some years ago the TV used to issue educational programs. I remember cartoons like "That's life" or "Once upon a time ... man" or programs like "Sesame Street". These series united fun and learning.
Today, TV executives say that society demands roses programs, dating shows, and reality shows. If we reflect on this matter we can see that the cartoon series and programs today are not very educational. I think kids today would enjoy a lot with the pictures that we saw when we were little. It would be nice to change "Sponge Bob" or "The Lunnis" with "That´s life" or "Once upon a time". Despite everything I've said before I must say that there are TV channels like "Discovery Max", "National Geographic Channel" or "Discovery Channel" that are entertaining and educational so I think it´s in our hands to decide which television programming we want to consume.
